Kumar Sanu Biography
Kedarnath Bhattacharaya a.k.a Kumar Sanu who is regarded as “King of Melody” in Bollywood industry. Was born on 20th October 1957. He started his playback singing career as Sanu Bhattacharya.
Before he was ready to perform in Bollywood industry he used to learn music under the guidance of his father Mr. Pashupati Bhattacharya.
He has also sang in other languages including Marathi, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Punjabi, Oriya, Chhattisgarhi, Urdu, Pali, English, Spanish and his native language, Bengali, both in West Bengal Kumar Sanu started his playback career, as Sanu Bhattacharya.
In 1986, he got Bangladeshi film Tin Kanya. He got his break in Bollywood when Gulshan Kumar gave him a career changing chance to sing almost every song in the movie Aashiqui.
Kumar Sanu with his beautiful voice modulation had got a trend of melody songs in the Bollywood industry.
He had collaborated with number of singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Anuradha Paudwal, Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sadhana Sargam, Alisha Chinai, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sapna Mukherjee, Poornima, Sapna Awasthi, Shreya Ghoshal, Akriti Kakkar, Monali Thakur, Neha Kakkar and others. Sanu also multiple duets with his daughter Shannon K, pop singer and songwriter, who has launched her career in the United States in 2017.
Bollywood Career
In September 23,1989 Legendary singer Jagjit Singh introduced Kumar Sanu to Kalyanji in Vimal Bunglow, Mumbai. On their suggestion he changes his name from “Kedarnath Bhattacharaya” to Kumar Sanu because his style of singing and his voice was determined by Kishore Kumar.
He became the most famous male vocalist in India during 90s One of the most prolific singers ever to work in the Indian film industry, Kumar Sanu’s recorded output numbers in the thousands of songs.
Records
Kumar Sanu holds some consecutive records which are not broken by any singers.
He won the first of his records five consecutive Filmfare Awards as Best Male Playback Singer. For the films like Saajan(1991), Deewana(1992), Baazigar(1993), 1941:A love story(1994). He won 5 back to back awards for singing between 1990 and 1994. Sanu sang the title song for the TV show Yeh Duniyan Gazab Ki, with singer Udit Narayan.
In 2017, Kumar Saanu along with Sadhna Sargam sung for the title track of 19s Story based TV Series “Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hain” and also appeared as a part for cameo in it.
In 2019, Kumar Sanu made a little singing for the Star Plus’s “Kulfi Kumar Bajewala”.
Other than singing and composing music for films, he has also shown interest in producing films. In 2006, he produced his first Hindi film Utthaan.
Kunar Sanu also has one more record in his name, which is “Most recorded songs in a single day “28”songs which is noted in “World book of records’’ United Kingdom.

Sanu worked for Himesh Reshammiya, for all title tracks of TV serials which Reshammiya produced. All the title tracks were sung by Sanu, and then in his debut film as a music director, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and further for many other films such as Kurukshetra, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Humraaz, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, Hello Brother, Bandhan, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Jodi No.1, Uljhan, Footpath and Taarzan: The Wonder Car.

Anand-Milind And Kumar Sanu Songs
Sanu has recorded over 150 songs with Anand-Milind. Breaking away from his romantic image, he has sung peppy numbers for the duo, his most famous ones being for actor Govinda. He worked with the duo and successfully delivered hits such as Jigar (1992), Raja Babu (1994), Suhaag (1994), Jai Kishan (1994), Elaan (1994), Coolie No 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Gair (1998), Chal Mere Bhai (2000), Army (1996), Trinetra, Lootere (1993), Gopi Kishan (1994) and Rakshak (1996).
Other Works
He recorded an album named Hum aur Tum. He also recorded a Spanish song for an album.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004 in a ceremony headed by then Party President Venkaiah Naidu, but he later resigned to concentrate on singing. He rejoined BJP on 2 December 2014, inducted by Amit Shah.
Kumar Sanu is still busy in same manner as he was busy in 90’s and mid 20’s but the only difference is now he is singing in very less budget movies. According to Kumar Sanu he is doing more shows now than that he did in 90’s Kumar is also busy with his charity works with his NGO.
He has opened two Schools one in Karol baug, Delhi and other one in Kolkata. In the name of ‘’Kumar Sanu Vidya Niketan’’
He has also opened a restobar in the city, where foodies can relish kebabs and tikkas while listening to his retro numbers from the ‘90s. The decor, choice of songs and menu of the multi-cuisine restaurant “Dum Laga K Haisha“, named after the 2015 romantic comedy but with a twist in the spelling, would give people a glimpse of the life and works of the singer.

‘Dum Laga ke Haisha’ is a North Indian specialty food restaurant in a metropolitan city of Kolkata.
It has a beautiful ambience and also has some of the art works in the restaurant, which gives us the glimpse of Idea about his work in Bollywood industry.

The restaurant walls are decorated with posters tracing the 60-year-old playback singer’s journey to stardom, his first major Bollywood song in Hero Hiralal (1988), how he got his name changed from Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu and his first Filmfare Award for the 1990 film Aashiqui.
The singer said, he had plans to set up a chain of restaurants in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru and that he was also getting franchise offers.
