Salim Merchant born on March 03, 1974 in Mumbai, their ancestral town is Kutch, Gujarat. Inspired by his father Sadruddin Merchant. He is married to Jeanne Merchant and have a daughter named Ayesha Merchant.
Music Career
Salim Merchant had often worked along with his brother Sulaiman Merchant and they are widely regarded as Salim – Sulaiman. They have given music for a numerous Hindi movies.
Salim Merchant did his schooling from Mumbai’s St. Peter’s High School and went KC College to pursue his graduation. Salim developed an interest in music at a very young age, since father was a music director. After completing his graduation Salim enrolled himself in London’s Trinity College of Music to master the Piano.
There after he went to Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan Delhi to learn Harmonium. His Guru was Ustad Sultan Khan.
Salim Merchant has been composing songs along with his sibling, Sulaiman Merchant. They have gained popularity in the industry owing to the movies like Chak de India and Fashion
Moreover, Salim Merchant took control of Piano in his college days and mastered it. He received recognition for his work in the movie titled, Bhoot after six years of immense hard work.
Salim Merchant and Sulaiman have been composing music for over a decade having scored for movies such as Neal ‘n’ Nikki, Chak De! India, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Fashion. The duo had also composed for many Indi-pop performers including Viva, Aasmaan, Shweta Shetty, Jasmine and Style Bhai among others, composed and produced several TV commercials and collaborated with artistes such as Ustad Zakir Hussain and Ustad Sultan Khan.
After that, they have gone to do movies with well-known producers and directors like Yash Chopra, Subhash Ghai and Ram Gopal Varma. They were predominantly composing background scores for movies, until the Karan Johar, Kaal, for which their song compositions received acclaim.
Salim Merchant was one of the three judges for the Fifth season of Indian Idol on Sony Entertainment Television.

2010 FIFA World Cup
After being the first Indian musicians to be nominated for an Emmy Award, for outstanding original song in the children and animation category for the animation show, The Wonder Pets, Salim-Sulaiman have another laurel in store. The duo was recently approached by a corporate body associated with FIFA, to compose a song for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, to be held in South Africa in June.
The corporate body is mostly made up of Indians, so they wanted us to compose a sports anthem for the World Cup, on the lines of Chak de India, Salim Merchant, one-half of the duo, which has composed songs for Chak De India ,Kurbaan, and Fashion, among others.
Although, initially, the duo weren’t sure about whether the song would actually be used in a big way during the World Cup, Merchant informs that recently, the main FIFA organizing body heard the song and loved it. And now, there are plans of taking the song even further.
The composer duo is now planning to get iconic Senegalese singer and Grammy Award winner, Youssou N’Dour, on board to sing the song. Youssou is the most famous African singer and they’d love nothing more than to get him to sing for them. The only unfortunate thing is that they’d have to remove Sidd’s voice from the track. If all goes well for the duo, they will also perform at the closing ceremony of the FIFA World Cup.

Mahendra was around 13 when he heard the Mohammed Rafi number ‘’Yahan badla wafa ka – Jugnu,1947 and was totally mesmerized by the singer. And the two lost themselves in prayer. Mahendra would never let go of any opportunity to show his gratitude towards Rafi. In 1979, a Mahendra Kapoor night was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London where Rafi’s sons, Khalid and Sayyed, happened to be present.
When Mahendra came to know of it, he asked the organizers to get him two garlands, something impossible at that hour. They were, however, bought from a temple in the vicinity. Then, he called the boys on stage, garlanded them, touched their feet and said, ‘I am not touching your feet, I am touching the feet of my guru who’s sitting in Mumbai!’ The audience was moved. Every singer has been influenced by another but no one acknowledges it. Surprisingly, Rafi and Mahendra never sang together (except in Aadmi, 1968).Rafi would say, ‘Log hum mein kushti ladayenge (people will pitch us against each other). We are brothers, not rivals The ’70s saw a paradigm shift in film music with the combination of Kishore Kumar and RD Burman taking over. It was a highly insecure phase for all singers, not only Kapoor.
The Indian and earthy style of singing popularized by singers like Talat saab, Rafi saab, Mukeshji and Mahendra Kapoor gave way to a western style. The instruments changed completely. That era troubled dad. Left, right and center it was only Kishore Kumar.

The Burning Hand Story of Raj Kapoor for Mahendra Kapoor.
Mahendra Kapoor told his family another incident when he went with Raj Kapoor for a show in Tashkent, in Russia. Rajsaab asked him whether he would play the harmonium when he sang his songs.
My father agreed, so as decided, my father played the harmonium and Rajsaab sang his songs. People applauded, Rajsaab was a demi-god in Russia.
The song ‘’Neele Gagan Ke Tale’’ was a huge hit in Russia. He asked someone to translate the song into Russian language and memorised it. After Rajsaab left the stage, Kapoor started singing ‘’Neele Gagan Ke Tale’’ in Russian. People went mad, and they began calling out my Mahendra Kapoor’s name and cheering for him. Rajsaab heard the noise and wanted to see who was so popular. On seeing Mahendra Kapoor on the stage, he said, “Sirf ek Kapoor he doosre Kapoor ko maat de sakta hai” (Only one Kapoor can defeat another Kapoor). Rajsaab was very happy with my Mahendra Kapoor.
While returning from Tashkent, he said, ‘Mahendra, I can’t give you the songs pictured on me as Mukesh sings my songs, you know that.’ Mahendra Kapoor said, ‘I know it and I don’t want them. Mukesh is a good friend.’ Rajsaab said, ‘There are second heroes in my films for whom you can sing. I can give you those songs. Henceforth, all my second hero songs, only you will sing.’ My father pulled his leg a bit. ‘Paaji, you are such a big man, once you reach India, you will forget you ever told me this.’ Rajsaab said, ‘Mahendra, you think like this of me?’ He then took the cigarette he was smoking and burnt his hand and said, ‘This mark will remain on my hand to remind me that I have to give you songs.’ When they came back, Rajsaab gave him the songs –

Alokesh Lahiri a.k.a Bappi Lahiri was born on November 27th in a Hindu Brahmin family of West Bengal in the city of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Career
Bappi Lahiri is very famous for his Danceable music and Disco music. It was first time in Bollywood that people heard such type of Music for the very first time. He came to Mumbai at the young age of 19. The first Hindi film for which he composed music was Nanha Shikari (1973).
The turning point of his career was Tahir Husain’s Hindi film, Zakhmee (1975), for which he composed music and doubled as a playback singer. He himself sung a duet with Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar called Nothing is Impossible for the same film.
The songs of his next film, Chalte Chalte, became a rage. With Ravikant Nagaich’s Surakshaa his singing and music became even more popular. He also scored music for many Hindi films produced in South India.
Bappi Lahiri is known for is unique style of music he pioneered the use of disco music in Indian cinema with an Indian flavor.

He launched Vijay Benedict and Sharon Prabhakar into the music industry. He also used Alisha Chinoy and Usha Uthup extensively for his compositions. It appears that Bappi Lahiri used the pseudonym [Basavalingaiah Hiremath] to sing some of his songs (e.g. Bambai se aya mera dost) Bappi had composed music for numerous of films which was a big hit during 1980s and 1990s and he had also impressed both film critics and audience too. In a September 2007 interview, he said, “I have films like Journey from Bombay to Goa, Jhoom, Khushboo, Mudrank, Ek Hasina Ek Dewana, Jaane Bhi Do Yaroo, Budda Mil Gaya, Bhoothnath, and, of course, the show with the Jacksons, in the pipeline”. Neeti Mohan is an Indian Singer, Song writer and actress. Born on 18 November, 1979 in the capital city New Delhi. She is the eldest sister in her Family. Neeti Mohan did her schooling from Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani and college studies from Miranda House, University of Delhi. Neeti Mohan’s father name is Brij Mohan Sharma and her mother name is Kusum Mohan. She also has 3 sisters Shakti Mohan (Younger, Dancer), Mukti Mohan (Younger, Dancer) and Kriti Mohan (Younger).
Convinced by her father, Mohan participated in many extra-curricular activities during her school; singing, dancing, performing in the band and theatre. She was adjudged best cadet in the National Cadet Corps of India and represented India as Youth Exchange Programme cadet. Later, Neeti Mohan learnt music formally at the Bhatkhande Music Institute and continued training in Mumbai with Rajashree Pathak, for five years. Apart from training in singing, Mohan studied dancing with her two sisters.
She trained in Bharata Natyam and Kathak under the supervision of Ashley Lobo. Besides training kids to dance, Mohan worked as an instructor there. Mohan graduated in philosophy from Miranda House, University of Delhi.
Career
Neeti Mohan sings mainly in Hindi films, but has also done songs in Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, and English.
She made her Bollywood debut in the movie “Student of the Year” which was release in 2012 and which was also a debut film for all of the Protagonists of the movie that is Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra. Mohan, debuted as a singer and sang the song ‘’ISHQ WALA LOVE’’
which was loved by everyone and film critics as well. The Song was soft ballad along with the music duo Salim Merchantand Sulaiman Merchant a.k.a Salim – Sulaiman.

For the former and “Naina” for the latter. While Mohan and Rashid Ali were performing in one Rahman’s concert show, he came up with the idea to bring a duet between the two, since “both shares similar vocal texture”. Hence, Neeti Mohan did playback for Sonam Kapoor in Raanjhanaa “Nazar Laaye“. Mohan had to bring the “softness” in her voice to match the “definite attitude” in Kapoor’s persona for her character.
In 2014, Mohan released a song ‘’Tune Maari Entriyaan’’ from the film Gunday which starred Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. His standards are very high, be it a recording or live performance”. Mohan has also been influenced by many artists outside the country. Zubeen Borthakur a.k.a Zubeen Garg born on November 18, 1972 in Tura district of Meghalaya. Zubeen Garg was named after the famous music composer Zubin Mehta. Zubeen Garg hails from Jorhat, a small city in upper Assam. His birth name is Jibon Barthakur. He was named after the great composer Zubin Mehta and used their Gautra as his surname. Zubeen was born to Mr. Mohini M Borthakur, a famous lyricist and poet (who uses the pseudo name Kapil Thakur), and late Mrs. Ily Borthakur. However, because of transliteration discrepancies he is sometimes credited as Zubin Garg, Jubin Garg, or simply Zubin, Zubeen or Jubin and various combinations of the above mentioned.
The Borthakur family had its roots in Janji, Sivasagar. Mr. Borthakur was a magistrate and moved often during his early years along with little Zubeen. Zubeen’s mother was a good dancer, an actress and a singer. However, she never turned these talents into a professional career. Instead, she decided to teach little Zubeen at home. Zubeen Garg considers his mother to be his first guru and mentor. Zubeen’s younger sister Jonkie Borthakur was a well-known singer and actress who died in a car accident in 2002. Zubeen’s other sister Palme, is a good Bharatnatyam dancer, presently living in Guwahati. Zubeen lives with his wife Garima a fashion designer.

Zubeen started learning his first instrument Tabla from his guru Robin Banerjee. Zubeen started learning Tabla from Guru Robin Banerjee, and then continued learning Assamese folk music form Guru Romoni Rai. He attended J.B. College in Jorhat, and then moved to B. Barooah College, where he was pursuing Bachelor of Science after his family moved permanently to Guwahati. But he did not complete his baccalaureate studies as he jumped into the music line because he had keen interest since starting of his leaning days with guru. Career
Runa Laila began career journey with a stage show in Dhaka at an age of 6 where she got the chance because of her elder sister Dian’s inability to sing. Certainly, she did not miss the chance, she satisfied with all audience by singing. When she was 9 years old, Radio Pakistan organized an inter-school music competition but organizers did not want to give her chance, cause of being an English medium student. In Pakistan those days, Ahmed Rushdi was the leading film singer who introduced rock n roll, disco and other modern genres to South Asian music. Following Rushdi’s success, Christian bands specialising in jazz started performing at various night clubs and hotel lobbies
in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Dhaka and Lahore. Laila became a fan of singer Ahmed Rushdi whom she considered her guru (teacher), and tried to emulate not only his singing style but also the way he used to perform on the stage. She then learned classical music with her elder sister Dina Laila (d. 1976). While she was a student of Saint Lawrence Convent, she won an inter-school singing competition in Karachi in the then west Pakistan.
She, along with her sister, were trained by Ustad Abdul Kader Peyarang and Ustad Habibuddin Ahmed. Runa wholeheartedly dedicated herself for the betterment of Bangla songs and the Bangla music industry. By then she had given voice to a significant number of Urdu songs, but all that fame seemed like nothing when the call from her roots reverberated within.
Her cousin, Anjumara Begum, had already been a known singer. When Laila was 12, she performed as a playback singer for a male child actor in the Urdu language film Jugnu. The song was titled “Gudia Si Munni Meri”.
In 1966, Laila made her entry and breakthrough in Pakistani Film industry with the song “Unki Nazron Sey Mohabbat Ka Jo Paigham Mila” for the film Hum Dono.
After her popularity she started performing on PTV channel’s show called ‘’Bazm E Laila’’.
Laila started appearing on the ‘Zia Mohyuddin Show’ (1972–74) and later did songs for films in the 1970s such as the film Umrao Jan Ada (1972). In 1974, she recorded “Shaader Lau” in Kolkata. She also had her first concert in India in 1974 in Mumbai.
Bollywood Career
She started in Bollywood with director Jaidev who she meet in Delhi, who took her under his wings and got her the chance to play at the inauguration of Doordarshan.
She first worked with the music composers Kalyanji-Anandji for the title song of a movie called Ek Se Badhkar Ek.
Lata Mangeshkar gave her blessings to Laila during the recording of the song. She gained popularity in India with the songs O Mera babu Chail chabila and Damadum MastKalandar
In October 2009, she released “Kala Sha Kala“,
A collection of Punjabi Wedding songs in India. In 2012, Laila served as a judge on the show Sur Kshetra,

But the height of popularity never got ‘Runa Laila’ over the clouds, for her attention has only and only revolved around her love for music. The benevolent artiste has taken part in countless charity programs, has worked as an ambassador for SAARC and UNAIDS to create awareness against mortal diseases. She has also funded to establish a children’s ward in Dhaka Children’s Hospital for children with cancer.

Family
Jaspinder’s late father was a Punjabi music maestro Sardar Kesar Singh Narula, Mother Mohini Narula was also a singer and her brother is a singer in Punjabi Industry Micky Narula.
Jaspinder got married to Man Mohan who is businessman based in Canada.
Career
Before making a big name in Bollywood industry Jaspinder Narula was initially in to Bhajans and Sufi songs. She was very much inspired and guided by her father Sardar Kesar Singh who was a music composer too in 50s.
Jaspinder Narula did not try singing in films as she was getting used to bhajans and was earning well fame in the same categories.
Jaspinder Narula moved to Mumbai, and she got a career changing advice from the noted music director Kalyanji who had previously heard Jaspinder playing in a social gathering event.
He was very much impressed by her voice and recommended her to his son Viju Shah who is a music director in Bollywood industry to give her a chance to sing in one of his movies and that’s how she got her Bollywood break in the Movie called Master.

Political Interests
Jaspinder Narula joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2014. She was recently working on a project based on the life of freedom fighter (V D) Savarakar and was highly influenced by him. The freedom fighters have done so much for the country and even I felt like contributing to the country.
It was then Jaspinder Narula decided to take a plunge into politics and AAP was a natural option. Narula who has also sung in hit films like “Mission Kashmir”, “Mohabbatein”, “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani” & Bunty Aur Babli’’.
Later in March 2014 she quit Aam Aadmi Party and left forever from politics saying that it had become direction less, the motive that she had before joining the party was nowhere to be seen so she would want to stay of the company.
Although Jaspinder Narula has sang many Bollywood songs and has gain enough recognitions she was very much keen about singing fold music and Sufi music and bhajans most of her career has spent through singing sufu and bhajans she will always be thankful to her guru for teaching her the Sa Re Ga of the music world.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan the legend of Qawwali was born on December 9,1974 in Faisalabad , Punjab , Pakistan. He is often recognized as nephew of Qawwal Maestro ‘’Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’’
And son of Farruk Fateh Ali Khan and Grandson of Fateh Ali Khan. He got married to Nida Rahat and have 2 children Shazmaan Khan and Filza Khan.
Career
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was selected at birth by his uncle for tutoring in the art of qawwali music. A precocious child, Rahat was singing at the age of three with his uncle and his father Farroukh Fateh Ali Khan, another respected qawwali singer. Rahat began formalized training with his uncle at the age of six. By age 15, Rahat officially joined his uncle’s celebrated group. Since becoming the head of the group, Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has performed on a variety of recordings and has sung with Eddie Vedder at the Dead Man Walking Concert put on by Tim Robbins.

He and his band continue to entrance world audiences with numerous shows around the globe. Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s self-titled release on American Recordings is his U.S. debut. In 2002, he worked on the soundtrack of The Four Feathers in collaboration with the American composer of orchestral and film music, James Horner. He debuted as a playback singer in Bollywood with the movie Paap (2003), in the song “Mann Ki Lagan“.

Nobel Peace Prize Concert
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was second Pakistani to perform at the upcoming Nobel Peace Prize Concert on December 11. Junoon performed at the concert earlier, according to Dawn.com. The concert, was held at the Oslo Spektrum Arena, was hosted by Queen Latifah and will honour India’s Kailash Satyarthi and the youngest-ever recipient of the Nobel Peace prize, Malala Yousafzai, for the work they have done to promote children’s rights, particularly education.

Rahat has also appeared on Pakistani Show Coke Studio for 4 straight seasons.
He first appeared in season 1, where he collaborated with singer Ali Azmat for the track “Garaj Baras”.
He then collaborated with Abida Parveen in season 6 for “Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheeni”.
In season 9, he sang “Afreen Afreen” along with Momina Mustehsan
Which has garnered more than 300 million views on YouTube, becoming the first Pakistani song to cross that mark. He collaborated with Amjad Sabri for “Aaj Rang Hai“
Which was the final performance of the latter, prior to his assassination on 22 June 2016. He appeared in Coke Studio Pakistan (season 10) where he performed “Sayonee” with Ali Noor and a solo number called Rangreza.
